Description: Pheidole smythiesii is a very aggressive species. They attack all other insects around the colony and wage war against other colonies with their large soldiers. The life expectancy of workers is only a few months, so they must be well-fed to ensure a large brood to replace natural deaths. They are known to be the queens of escapees; a completely enclosed hunting area is essential.
This is one of the largest Pheidole species in the world.

Development: Swarming from June to July.

Foundation: Takes place in a cloistered environment (without feeding). Development: 30 days from egg to worker (depending on temperature).

Colony size: Up to 8,000 individuals, the queen can reach the age of 15.
